Last week, RE-Source Poland Hub representative Piotr Michalik participated in the #DaniOIE2026 conference held in Opatija, Croatia. As part of the event, he took part in a panel titled “Community-Tailored Energy – A Path to Lower Energy Costs and Stronger Energy Independence,” dedicated to the development of energy communities, PPAs and the role of local governments in the energy transition.
The panel presented a perspective on the Polish market for Corporate Power Purchase Agreements (cPPAs), with a particular focus on the possibility of using long-term contracts for the purchase of renewable energy by local government units. The discussion focused on practical solutions to support stabilizing energy costs, increasing budget predictability and meeting decarbonization goals.
During the discussion, attention was paid to the need to strengthen cooperation between member states, local governments, businesses and local communities. Also emphasized was the important role of projects implemented under the European Climate Initiative (EUKI), which enable the exchange of experience, the development of practical solutions and the implementation of measures to meet local energy transition needs.
Of particular importance for the RE-Source Poland Hub were discussions on increasing the availability of renewable energy sources for local governments, energy communities and small and medium-sized enterprises. These topics also remain key in the “Renewables for All” project implemented jointly with Renewable Energy Sources of Croatia (RES), which aims to support the development of green energy purchasing models through PPAs in Poland and Croatia.
The #EUKICON26 conference confirmed that a successful energy transition requires not only adequate regulation and investment, but also strong international cooperation, knowledge sharing, and active involvement of local communities and the market.
