The RE-Source Croatia 2025 conference was held on March 13, 2025. Zagreb. This key event for the industry was organized by Renewable Energy Sources of Croatia, and the discussions held there focused on the topics of guarantees of origin and PPAs in the CEE region.

One of the panel discussions was called “Identifying and mitigating risks in cPPAs.” The speaker for this debate was RE-Source Poland Hub Vice President Szymon Kowalski, and he was accompanied by Domenico Franceschino, Tanja Valek, Vladimir Sabo, Sandra Tomašković and Mladen Sicel.

Challenges, opportunities and development

The group of experts discussed hedging strategies, the challenges of counterparty insolvency, cooperation between producers, customers and system operators, and new system solutions – among others. guarantees from the Export Credit Insurance Corporation to support the implementation of cPPAs.

Szymon Kowalski shared insights on the role PPAs play in the economy, saying: “The first PPAs were signed in Poland in 2018-2019, and we currently have 2 GW of energy secured by these agreements. These contracts were mainly focused on the industrial sector, but now the IT and retail sectors are starting to get involved as well.”
