The PPA market is growing rapidly. However, it is hindered from reaching its full pace by barriers regarding procurement and acceleration of renewable energy sources. This was discussed during the panel “Market Zoom: Poland,” which was part of the RE-Source 2024 conference, and one of the speakers present was Szymon Kowalski, vice president of the RE-Source Poland Hub Foundation. The event took place in Amsterdam and lasted from October 24 to 25, 2024.

The questions that arise in the face of the growing PPA market most often concern the possibility of procuring RES, the good time to sign a contract or the stability of the sector. The aforementioned expert discussion, during which the situation of the Polish market was discussed, was of considerable interest to conference participants. The interlocutors presented a positive outlook towards the development of the energy sector, emphasizing the considerable opportunities it presents to investors.

Among the opportunities and challenges mentioned by the speakers were the need for better availability of guarantees of energy origin, the potential of new financial instruments, new guarantee products to support the development of the cPPA, or the need to harmonize standards. Also raised were the topics of new power purchase options (direct lines and PLAs), the impact of balancing market reform on asset revenues and energy market stabilization.
